The year of adventure has begun!
Corey and I decided that 2017 should be packed with adventure. Each month we will be going somewhere new, whether that be in the state of Colorado or elsewhere. Since we were both ill for most of January we got a late start to our travels, but we kicked off the Year of Adventure in the beautiful town of Estes Park. Home to Rocky Mountain National Park and the famous Stanley Hotel, Estes Park is a quaint little town surrounded by gorgeous views. Here’s a look into what we did during our weekend getaway!
We booked our hotel stay on Expedia a while ago, however, it somehow overbooked the day before we left so they offered to move us to a different accommodation. Instead of staying at the Mary’s Lake Lodge, we spent the weekend at the most charming bed and breakfast I’ve ever seen! The Romantic River Song Bed & Breakfast Inn had everything! Each private cabin was nestled perfectly on the mountainside along the river and was close to many trails, downtown and Rocky Mountain National Park. The B&B supplied snow shoes, 24-hour snacks and coffee and they cooked the most delicious breakfast each morning. We loved our stay there!
On Sunday morning we ventured off to Rocky Mountain National Park for some snowshoeing! I don’t need to say much about this beautiful place, except – would you look at that view?!
Our final day in Estes Park was spent being tourists! We couldn’t travel there without seeing the iconic Stanley Hotel. Not only is it one of the oldest buildings in Estes Park, but it’s also where The Shining and Dumb and Dumber were filmed. Oh, and it’s super haunted! Eek.
You definitely don’t come to Estes Park for the food, but we did manage to find some gems that satisfied our mountain cravings.
Places to eat:
- Antonio’s Pizza – the BEST wood-fire, New York style pizza
- Scratch Deli & Bakery – really great sandwiches!
- Mary’s Lake Lodge – the salmon was delish!
Our first adventure of the year is officially in the books and I have to say it was a great one to start with! Doing life with Corey by my side, I know I will have a life full of adventure. Off to plan our trip for March! Where do you think we should go?!
